Lights of Cincinnati is Scott Walker’s third solo single. It was written by British songwriters Tony Macaulay, who co-wrote hit singles Build Me Up, Buttercup and Baby Now I’ve Found You for the Foundations, and Geoff Stephens, who wrote There’s a Kind Of Hush, a hit for Herman’s Hermits.

A song remembering a lost love, with Peter Knight directing the orchestral arrangements, Lights of Cincinnati was released the same month as Walker’s fourth album, Scott Walker Sings Songs From His T.V. Series, although it did not feature on the track listing. “If you don’t put out a single, you are under pressure from the public who pressure my record company who pressure my manager who pressures me,” Walker said to the NME’s Keith Altham. Lights of Cincinnati replaced 30 Century Man on the US edition of Scott 3. Footage of Walker performing the single on Dutch TV was posted on the archive site 192TV in 2013.

The single’s B-side was Two Weeks Since You’ve Gone, a track from Scott 3, with orchestral accompaniment directed by Angela Morley. The song reached no. 13 in the UK charts, and spent ten weeks on the UK top 40.
