I Still See You is Scott Walker’s fourth solo single. His first release in the UK for two years, it was the love theme for the 1971 romantic drama The Go-Between, Joseph Losey’s adaptation of the LP Hartley novel, with a script by Harold Pinter, starring Julie Christie and Alan Bates. The film won the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Festival that year.

I Still See You was written by French composer Michel Legrand, Oscar-winning composer of The Windmills Of Your Mind, and South African songwriter Hal Shaper. It was produced by John Franz, with Bob Cornford arranging the orchestral accompaniment, as was the B-side, My Way Home. Co-written by Walker and his manager Ady Semel, it is one of Walker’s only original songs not to feature on any album, featuring lyrics where “Greyhounds roll/through the giant dawn” and “windows open out on stars”.

The single did not chart. Scott Walker did not record another original composition for seven years.
