Track Three is Scott Walker’s eighth solo single and his final single release. It was the third A-side written by Walker in his career, following Deadlier Than The Male in 1966 and The Electrician in 1978, both for the Walker Brothers. Its lyrics reference “desert clouds”, “streets shining with rain”, and “the shadow of the son”, to a prominent bassline and the sound of digital synthesisers. “Hide my soul,” Walker sings on the chorus, “and pray us free”.

It features backing vocals by Billy Ocean, who recorded on the same label as the Walker Brothers, GTO Records, in the late 1970s. The summer after the release of Track Three, he had a no. 6 hit with his single, Caribbean Queen.

The B-side, Blanket Roll Blues, is a cover version of a song originally sung by Marlon Brando in the 1959 film The Fugitive Kind. It features lyrics by the American playwright Tennessee Williams, and music by Kenyon Hopkins.

The single was produced by Scott Walker and Peter Walsh, and mixed by Peter Walsh. It did not chart.
