Delta Dawn is Scott Walker’s seventh solo single. A cover of Alexander Harvey’s 1973 hit for country singer Tanya Tucker, Delta Dawn was inspired by Harvey’s mother’s early life, and her death in a car crash when he was fifteen. It was released as a single to promote Walker’s tenth solo album, We Had It All, an album of cover versions of country songs.

The B-side is the album’s title track, written by Donnie Fritts and Troy Seals. Both songs were produced by Del Newman, who also worked on Elton John’s Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me the same year.

Delta Dawn did not chart.
